Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL or MoFi) is a company that produces reissues of classic albums. All releases are made from the first generation master tape and mastered at half-speed, allowing for an improved sound quality. In addition, each title is licensed to be mastered, manufactured, and sold within a specific time frame, and because of the limited quantities produced, the releases are highly sought after by collectors. MFSL entered the CD market with its line of aluminum CDs which continued into 1987, when the Ultradisc was first released. The Ultradisc was a gold plated disc, allowing for a more reflective surface. Ultradisc titles sound superior to their standard release counterparts. MFSL located the master tape for each title, and the tape was transferred directly to the CD master. In many cases, no sonic manipulation took place, so what is heard on the disc is a digital copy of the studio master tape. The first Ultradiscâ„¢, a Jazz Sampler containing a variety of selections from Mobile Fidelity's OMR CD collection, was released to significant critical acclaim. Mobile Fidelity weren't able to make their release date so they had to send the CD out without the Booklet & Tray-liner. The difference between Ultradisc and Ultradisc II were the pressings - the formers were from Japan, the latters the United States.Originally released in 1987 as JS-1 and then again in 1988.  The 1988 edition CD was reissued with slightly different tracks as JS-1A. The JS-1 was recalled because Mobile Fidelity did not have the rights to two of the songs. The CD was later in late 1988 released as JS-1A with a different song listing.
